We’re big fans of time-travelling Doctors here at RadioTimes.com, so it’s good to see a bit of temporal tomfoolery in the latest TV spot for Marvel superhero movie Doctor Strange.
Playing Benedict Cumberbatch’s origins as the titular Sorceror Supreme backwards as well as featuring mysterious twisted dialogue, the new clips seem to hint that fan theories about Strange’s magical amulet (the Eye of Agamotto to any True Believers reading) containing one of the film series’ powerful Infinity Stones, specifically the as-yet undiscovered Time Stone.
Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One and Cumberbatch’s Strange also repeat the word time about 47 times in voiceover, which is a bit of a hint.
And if there was any doubt that the spot was supposed to hint at time-bending antics, IGN have discovered that by playing the clips backwards mysterious new dialogue is unlocked, mainly referring to Strange’s potential as a magician.
(Fun fact: if you play Led Zeppelin at the same time as watching the above clip, you will astral project back to the 1970s.)
By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth, all this backmasking fun makes this the sort of timey-wimey movie we can’t wait to see.
Doctor Strange is released in UK cinemas on the 25th October
