EastEnders star Lin Blakley has spoken out about her upcoming exit from the BBC1 soap. Both Pam and screen husband Les (Roger Sloman) are set to leave Walford for a new life in Worthing, but Blakley has hopes that the couple may one day make a reappearance.
“It wasn’t my choice to leave. But when a new boss comes into any company, they’ll want to change a few things. And I respect that,” the actress tells RadioTimes.com. “I’m very sad to be leaving, I’d be telling you a lie if I was to say, ‘oh, whatever will be will be’. But I’m also a great believer in fate and maybe it is the right time to leave. And who knows? There might be a right time to return.”
Pam and Les’s axing by new executive producer Sean O’Connor will see the characters depart next week. But, in true soap fashion, fans can expect their final few days on the Square to be beset by difficulties and last-minute hitches.
Scenes to be shown on Tuesday 11 October see Pam make a heartfelt confession to Ben when he helps her with the packing of Paul’s room. And by Thursday, Les is starting to have doubts about the move, despite Pam’s assurances that it’s the right decision for them.
Speaking about her own experience of saying goodbye to the Square, Blakley says: “I loved my time on the market. We had such a laugh, we really did. I shall miss everyone – the cast and crew, our supporting artists and the cleaner who cleans my room. I’ll miss them all and I’m sad to be leaving everyone up at Borehamwood.
“I have to say, though, that our final scene is beautifully written and directed. I won’t reveal exactly how we leave but my tears were definitely real.”
