French and Saunders instead of Mel and Sue, and Mary Berry swapped for Delia Smith?
That’s what Channel 4 could be shooting for as they look for a new line-up to join Paul Hollywood when The Great British Bake Off moves from the BBC, say insiders – and whether or not there’s any truth in it, you have to admit, switching one well-loved female comedy duo for another, and signing up a new baking matriarch, would make a lot of sense.
“The pressure is now on to sign up the best team possible for the show when it makes its debut on Channel 4,” a source apparently told The Sun.
“[Delia] would be a really credible choice. And Dawn and Jennifer would be a dynamite signing.
“Not only are they absolutely hilarious, but they have wonderful chemistry, which is what viewers really loved about Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
“Those are very much the top three at the moment. But the team are going to be considering the options carefully.”
And of course, they probably need to run it past Dawn, Jennifer and Delia, too.
