Last night’s episode of The Great British Bake Off was pretty stressful, and not just because we had to watch Mel, Sue and Mary go about their business with NO IDEA about the terrible Great British Break-Up ahead of them.
No, there was stress in other places too, with Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood on acerbic form while judging the “botanical”-themed bakes and young contestant Andrew Smyth on the receiving end of some of their harshest criticism.
Andrew’s stress over his performance led to him almost breaking down in a VT, eventually sobbing with gratitude when he lived to bake another day as Rav was sent home first.
And it’s safe to say that viewers found the whole thing pretty emotional as well…
In fact, a lot of fans found themselves tearing up in tribute to Andrew.
And even among his non-fans, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house
But not to worry – in the end, Andrew was saved and happily let off some steam.
And remember gang, we need to save our sobs for the real tragedies – like when this Bake Off family is broken up for good at the end of the series. Now that’s a real tearjerker.
The Great British Bake Off continues on BBC1 next Wednesday at 8:00pm
