Did Val just become the most popular Bake Off contestant ever?

This year's oldest contestant became Twitter's favourite baker after her rather racy innuendos and pastry flossing in episode 5

So, pastry week. We saw flaky tasty Danish pastries, numerous questionable Bakewell tarts and some very impressive filo showstoppers. But while Candice took the star baker award for the second time, all eyes were on 66-year-old Val Stones, the fifth baker to leave the tent.

In fact, throughout the episode Val won over everyone on twitter.

Why? Well, throughout the episode, she served up some classic Bake Off moments. From her pastry flossing….

…to tearing up the Bakewell tart recipe and losing in the technical to Andrew, a baker who forgot to turn the oven on…

…to offering Bake Off’s rudest innuendo yet.

In fact, many think her performance called for a new Bake Off spin-off show.

And her final departure from the tent brought a tear to the nation’s eye, especially when she said “whenever I make anything, I stir love into it, I knead love into it. So when I present it, it’s special”.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Wednesday, 8pm
