The mercurial actor-turned- director Peter Berg employs his roving camera style well in this dusty, fashionably oil-linked tale of corruption set in the Middle East. FBI agents Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman and Chris Cooper enter Riyadh (actually Arizona) after an al-Qaeda bomb explodes at an oil-company compound. Treading carefully and not so carefully over this diplomatic and corporate minefield, our heroes must solve the case while various forces try to get shot of them. It’s not exactly sophisticated, politically, but the story is sound, the pyrotechnic set pieces are effective and future Mr Selfridge Jeremy Piven is superb as the obstructive man at the US embassy.
