When we last saw gladiator-turned mercenary Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones, things weren’t looking too great for him. Abandoned by his queen (and lover) Daenerys Targaryen as she sailed to Westeros, he was left to manage Meereen in her absence and doomed to a life without her as she looked for an advantageous match in her home country.
But is this the end for Daario? Will the leader of the Second Sons still be battling his way to glory in Game of Thrones series 7, or have we seen the last of him? To find out, we put the question to actor Michael Huisman – though he wasn’t immediately forthcoming.
“Well, we don’t know!” Huisman said of Daario’s future. “I can’t say anything about that.”
However, the actor did drop one hint about his character’s future with Daenerys, noting deliberately that “she left him behind” and that her storyline looked set to move in different ways going forward. And he has a point – how could Daario still fit into a storyline that was taking place on another continent?
For now, it seems unlikely that Huisman will find his way back to the world of Westeros – but he’s already working on a new project with fellow Game of Thrones alum Robert Aramayo (who played young Ned Stark in flashbacks), a biopic of motorcycle pioneers called Harley and the Davidsons that has allowed him to indulge his inner petrolhead.
“Game of Thrones is an incredible show to be a part of, to be part of such a big cast,” the actor said.
“But it’s also great working on something like Harley and the Davidsons, where you get to follow a character’s story closely over fewer episodes.
“If you like bikes, watch it. If you don’t like bikes watch it, because it’s full of interesting history and Americana.”
