Anastacia, the only celebrity flying the Star and Stripes in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, is donating every penny of her earnings from the show to a Breast Cancer charity.
Speaking to Radiotimes.com, the singer/songwriter said she’s hoping to “give as much as I can back to the women and to a cure.”
The 47-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, before being treated a second time in 2013, undergoing a double mastectomy. After her first battle with the disease she set up the Anastacia Fund at The Breast Cancer Research Foundation to encourage younger women to get screened.
Anastacia, who agreed to appear as a contestant to Strictly after her Blackpool performance last year, added that competing on Strictly crossed off an entry on her “bucket list”.
Although Anastacia says she isn’t sure how much she’ll earn from the show, the Strictly star said she’s looking for companies and individuals and to match her contribution.
Not only is the singer looking to lengthen her time in the ballroom to increase her earnings (“you longer you stay, the more you get”), she’s looking to take home the glitterball trophy: “I’m going in to win – that’s completely honest. I’m Honest-acia!”
And watch out, she’s going to throw back any criticism she gets on the way, vowing to “literally scratch their eyes out” if any judges hands out negative comments.
