Linda Gray, famous for playing Sue Ellen Ewing in Dallas, will make a guest appearance in Hollyoaks in the autumn. She will play Tabitha Maxwell-Brown, a widow and a lady who lunches, and will come to Hollyoaks to pay her daughter Marnie Nightingale a visit.
Gray’s scenes will air over the course of one week but her story line leaves the door open for a possible return in the future.
75-year-old Gray was a major character in Dallas for eleven years from 1978 to 1989. She is best known for being the long-suffering wife of JR Ewing of ‘Who shot JR?’ fame.
If mother is anything like daughter, Gray’s character may well turn out to be the archetypal soap bitch. She said of her new role: “Hollyoaks viewers are going to love it when Tabby whips up a storm just like Sue Ellen did. I’m thrilled to be going from one iconic series to another and can’t wait to work with the fantastic cast.”
Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood said in a statement: “When we came to discuss who could possibly play Marnie’s mother the list was very small. We can’t wait to have an international TV icon arrive and become part of the Hollyoaks family.”
Here’s hoping for cat fights and power dressing in Chester.
