Bake Off accused of “gender stereotyping” and “sexism” over new contestant photos

Publicity shots of the new bakers show the men using blue icing and the women with pink

Bake Off fever is sweeping the nation again as, with just over a week to go until the new series, a fresh new batch of contestants has been unveiled.

People are predictably excited – so much so in fact, that both #GBBO and The Great British Bake Off have been trending on Twitter this morning. And yet, as fans scan this year’s bakers in search of the new Tamal, Nadiya or Norman, not all the comments are positive.

Claims of outdated thinking are being levelled at the show after people spotted that the publicity shots of the new contestants picture the women with pink icing and the men with blue.

Some are excited about Bake Off but disappointed with the decision…

Some are labelling it “gender stereotyping”…

…while others are calling it simply “sexism”…
