Former Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has admitted that his sacking from the ITV soap in 2013 left him “ashamed and depressed” and that he struggled to leave the house in the wake of the scandal.
The actor – who played Tommy Duckworth on the ITV soap – lost his job on Corrie after videos of him rapping about rape and violence emerged online. Speaking about the experience, Fountain said today on This Morning:
“Stupidly, when I was younger I got involved with a group of people I didn’t know well. I tried to impress these people and did stupid things, and relive every day thinking why did I do that. It kills me the stuff that went online. It in no way reflects how I feel about women.”
The 28-year-old then revealed that he didn’t work for three years following his dismissal from Coronation Street, but is now trying to revive his career in stage production of The Full Monty alongside his former Dancing on Ice co-star Gary Lucy.

Fountain’s contract with Corrie in 2013 was terminated after it was revealed that he was performing as masked alter-ego The Phantom.
Wearing a Halloween disguise, Fountain rapped: “I will f**k anybody up in the worst way, rape a bitch on her birthday.
“I’m a motherf**king demon, I’ll stab you in the face with a diseased needle.”
Three years on, Fountain had this to say about what he did: “I have constantly worked since I was 15, then this happened and it put my family through hell. I let people down, including myself. I didn’t leave the house for a long time. I was depressed and ashamed and rightly so.”
