Coronation Street: Jim McDonald to return this winter?

"I believe there’s the possibility of something happening," teases actor Charles Lawson

Former Coronation Street star Charles Lawson has hinted that fiery Jim McDonald could be making an explosive return to Weatherfield.

As viewers know, Jim is currently in prison (or “the big house” as he’d put it) serving a sentence for armed robbery. He last featured on the ITV soap in 2014 when he was shown running an illegal booze trade behind bars – and almost killing alcoholic Peter Barlow in the process.

Now, though, it seems that he might be released from jail – just as son Steve (Simon Gregson) is fretting about having two babies with two different women! A current Corrie plotline sees Steve trying to hide the fact that he’s expecting a baby with Leanne from wife Michelle, who also wants to have a child with him. So could Jim provide a shoulder for Steve to cry on?

“I speak to Simon [Gregson] every fortnight or every week in fact, and he always lets me know what’s going on and I believe there’s the possibility of something happening sort of over the winter time,” Lawson said today.

Asked about whether we’d see more McDonald-centred father and son scenes, the actor added to the Sun: “I think so, there are rumours around that there might be something to do with something I can’t really discuss. Watch this space.”

And those expecting fireworks from hellraiser Jim won’t be disappointed. “You don’t bring Jim back just to have a pint in the Rovers. There’s always something big,” he said.
