Actor Chris Gascoyne is to make a Coronation Street comeback as part of a move to put the Barlow family front and centre on the ITV soap.
Gascoyne’s character Peter Barlow will be joined by Ken’s other son Daniel Osbourne as well as grandson Adam.
Speaking today, producer Kate Oates said: “One of the longest-running families is the Barlows and why would you not want to strengthen them?
“So I’m excited to bring Peter back to the show. I am delighted to meet Daniel Osbourne, who is Ken’s son with Denise, and I’m excited to bring back Adam, who is Mike Baldwin’s son and Ken’s grandson.
“I’m looking forward to seeing that first family on the soap sending ripples through the street.”
The casting of Daniel and Adam has yet to be confirmed, although Oates is currently negotiating for Sam Robertson (who played Adam between 2004 and 2007) to reprise his role.
Peter was last seen in Weatherfield in 2015 when he made a brief return for Deirdre’s funeral. As for what brings him back to town this time around, Oates teased:
“Peter is rarely single and he may have someone in his sights when he returns and he may not be completely honest. Then something happens when he arrives that’s unexpected and which means that he has to stay.”
After being asked how long actor Chris Gascoyne would be back on the soap, Oates replied: “as long as I can tie him down” before adding, “He’s got such an amazing presence and energy on screen.”
