TOWIE doesn’t want to become “dumping ground” for Love Island stars

Love Island champs Cara and Nathan have been the topic of much Essex chat, but we’re told it’s an unlikely move for the ITVBe show

No sooner had Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey scooped the Love Island 2016 title when talk turned to the duo joining the cast of structured reality show The Only Way Is Essex. But an insider tells us it’s unlikely, as TOWIE doesn’t want to become a “dumping ground” for Love Island cast.

The idea makes sense of course: Nathan is best mates with current stars Tommy Mallet and his girlfriend Georgia Kousoulou, the former actually encouraging Love Island bosses to sign Nathan up. Nathan and Cara clearly hit the right notes with viewers, too, who voted them eventual winners. And they’re both keen to do something along the lines of TOWIE. “If anything came up I’d take it with two hands,” Nathan told us, before clarifying that it would be as a duo.

A popular ready made new couple up for hitting the town with the TOWIE lot? Seems like a no-brainer to us.

But the ITVBe show has its reservations about such casting, an insider told us.

“TOWIE won’t want to be a dumping ground for former Love Island stars,” they said, having already signed up Love Island 2015 finalist Jon Clark. “They need to be careful not to just take people known from other reality shows.”

It doesn’t mean it’s an idea entirely off the table. The whims of show bosses mean half the cast could be signed up within six months, including Cara and Nathan. But for now the message is that it’s “not the current plan”.
