Blink and you’d have missed Chris Evan’s stint on Top Gear, so we can probably forgive Billie Piper for not catching her ex-husband’s brief tenure at the helm of the motoring show. But despite forgoing the entire first series of the post-Clarkson era, the actress has a good suggestion as to who could fill Evans’ spot…
During a live webchat with The Guardian this afternoon, Piper was asked how she rated her ex’s stint on the motoring show, to which she responded:
“I didn’t see it. Mine’s all on catch up. But I’m sure he did a stellar job. And I’m sad he’s leaving. His son would be an amazing replacement – his knowledge of cars is terrifying for a seven-year-old. And he’s one of the most articulate and gentle little guys – his name’s Noah.”
It’s no surprise that Piper’s well-acquainted with Evans’ child with his third wife, Natasha Shishmanian, as the exes are famously still good pals.
During the chat, the former Doctor Who star also said that she ‘loves’ the BBC1 sci-fi series’ fans. “They’re in love with Rose, they love what she stands for and represents. [When I was a popstar] it was more a personality-based thing,” she admitted.
“I’m so pleased about [Rose’s continued popularity]. She was just some normal chick from an estate, and she had a real zest for life, and she’s really curious and quite chippy.”
Piper was promoting her new play, Yerma, which opens at The Young Vic later this month.
