Rylan Clark-Neal has been confirmed as Matt Edmondson’s Xtra Factor co-host.
Let’s just give him a minute (or maybe 23) to let that sink in.
The news that the former contestant was joining the show had pretty much been given away after his This Morning colleagues Phillip and Holly gave him a tough time during his showbiz bulletin.
They teased they thought there were ‘more legs’ to the story that Edmondson was going to host the show, joking ‘long legs…’ leaving him momentarily silent before moving on to the rest of his news.
He seems like a great fit with Edmondson, though. Insiders tell me they think he’ll be good for adding the “showbiz” element to the ITV2 spin-off (which he certainly did during his time as contestant in 2012), while Edmondson will be a good counter with his dry sense of humour and quick wit.
Edmondson himself certainly seems to be pleased about working as a double act, tweeting earlier this week that he was excited about an upcoming announcement.
It’s the first time two men have hosted the show together. It also means it’s a full male line-up across the X Factor presenting team this year, with Dermot O’Leary returning to the main show.
Rylan’s decided his new Xtra gig makes he and Edmondson the new ‘odd looking Ant and Dec’.
“I can’t wait to get working with Matt and finally find our niche as the odd looking Ant and Dec. I’m so excited to work alongside the judges and Dermot and over the moon to be sharing the coming months with my Nicole as a fully-fledged Scherzy boy once more. Watch out Simon … I’m back!”
It won’t, Rylan himself confirmed, affect his role with Big Brother as host on its spin-off Bit on the Side.
As previously reported, The Xtra Factor go live each week from the very first auditions. It returns to ITV2 later this year.
