Love Island’s Zara Holland has been told off camera that she’s been “de-crowned” by Miss Great Britain.
Last night the Miss GB organisation said in a statement that it was with “deep regret” that Zara had been formally stripped of her title. It added that it had “no choice under the circumstances”, which involved Zara spending the night with new islander Alex Bowen.
Earlier in the day the organisation had said talk of de-crowning wasn’t coming from them, but the new statement came as the fall out from the previous night’s events unfolded on the ITV2 reality show.
“Zara has been told off camera and has gone back into the villa and has chosen to remain in the show,” an ITV spokesperson confirmed. An insider tells me she seemed “fairly calm about it” and has told the others in the villa who have all be very “supportive”.
Viewers will see Zara discuss the news on Sunday’s episode. We understand Zara does hint at possible repercussions on tonight’s show, suggesting to fellow islander Sophie that she’s worried it may have affected things, so it was clearly already on her mind.
While some have been quick to criticise the show itself for not telling Zara before news broke publicly, we can confirm the show was not made aware of the contents of Miss Great Britain’s second statement before it was made public.
The show has of course needed to break the news to her, to avoid new islanders inadvertently (or purposefully) spilling the news.
Love Island continues tonight at 9:00pm on ITV2
