The Island with Bear Grylls is getting a celebrity makeover to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.
Ten celebrities are ditching their home comforts to try their hand at surviving on the Channel 4 show.
Former JLS singer Aston Merrygold, Made in Chelsea’s Ollie Locke and comedian Dom Joly are preparing to be stranded, along with The Hotel’s Mark Jenkins, rugby ace and model Thom Evans, Channel 4’s Dr Dawn Harper, former Labour Councillor and ‘selfie queen’ Karen Danczuk, comedian Josie Long, TOWIE star Lydia Bright and former Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon.
That’s quite the mix, isn’t it?
I’m told we’ll be “surprised” by which of those celebrities turn out to be good at surviving and which turn out to be, well, not so good. But hey, smile through adversity and all that other empowering stuff that Bear Grylls says.
The celebs endured two weeks on the island for the four-part special and had only the clothes on their backs, basic tools, medical supplies and enough water to last them 24 hours.
The island is in the same area as the most recent ‘civilian’ series, but is not exactly the same one, so any hope of finding ready-made shelters were dashed. Here’s hoping one of them paid attention at Scouts or Brownies…
The series will air as part of Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK’s Stand Up to Cancer campaign this October.
