Peep Show may be over but comedy double-act David Mitchell and Robert Webb are returning with a new sitcom called Back.
Since RadioTimes.com broke the news that the pair would star in a “more middle-aged” Channel 4 series, we’ve been keen to know exactly what it would be about.
Written by Peep Show co-writer Simon Blackwell and directed by The Inbetweener Movie’s Ben Palmer, Back centres around Stephen (played by Mitchell) who is set to finally take over the family pub after his dad dies. His mum Ellen (Julia Deakin) and sister Cass, played by Sherlock’s Louise Brealey, are uninterested in the business so it’s definitely Stephen’s turn. But when his charming former foster-brother Andrew (Webb) turns up at the funeral, Stephen’s plans go awry.
Simon Blackwell said, “It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to write for David and Robert again, and very exciting to be surrounded by such a superb cast, director and production team.”
Phil Clarke, head of comedy for Channel 4 added: “Simon has written a very funny and clever script with a strong emotional heart that takes Robert Webb and David Mitchell in a new and genuinely intriguing direction.”
