Fancy a sneak peek at new Harry Potter story the Cursed Child? Well you’re in luck, because JK Rowling has just given us permission to go back stage.
In a new video, Rowling takes us behind the scenes of her first stage play as rehearsals take place.
Now we won’t tell you this two-minute clip contains huge plot spoilers – everyone knows Rowling is cleverer than that – but you can see Noma Dumezweni, Jamie Parker and Paul Thornley, aka Hermione, Harry and Ron, trying out some elaborate wand waving. Plus a group of younger cast members practising a section of choreography involving what looks like Hogwarts suitcases…
Rowling then sits down with director John Tiffany and playwright Jack Thorne to discuss the play’s progress before revealing one of the things she loves most about Harry Potter fans.
“One of the things that I have valued most about the Potter fandom is that as a community they have really looked after each other,” she says. “People have each other’s backs – it’s a special thing. And it’s for that reason, more than any other, I would like us, if we can, to manage to keep our secrets.”
“This will be such an incredible theatrical experience that I’d love us to be able to surprise people and move people, in the natural way that a story should surprise and move people.”
The Cursed Child, which follows Harry’s son Albus Severus, will debut in the West End this summer
