The Queen cuts into birthday cake made by Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain

Nadiya’s cake was presented to Her Majesty as part of her 90th birthday celebrations

Republicans and dieters look away now: the Queen just cut into her birthday cake, made by Great British Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain.

The multi-layered orange drizzle cake was presented to Her Majesty as part of her 90th Birthday celebrations.

Appearing in a clip on The One Show last night, Nadiya admitted: “I’m officially super nervous. It’s such an honor to be doing this. I don’t want to disappoint the Queen.”

The master baker had been tweeting her excitement as she got ready for the big day.

Nadiya, who won the latest series of GBBO, was contacted by the Palace a couple of weeks ago and asked to take on the challenge.

On last night’s The One Show she said: “My initial reaction was, it must be a mistake or some kind of prank.”

“I told my husband and he said I had to do it. How could I say no?”

“When I told my daughter I was nervous, she said: ‘But mummy, you’ve made lots of cake for Mary Berry.’ Then it dawned on me – she thinks Mary Berry is the Queen!”
