EastEnders: Kush’s brother Shakil arrives – played by Britain’s Got Talent star Shaheen Jafargholi

Bonnie Langford's screen son will be seen in Walford this spring

The Kazemi family looks set to be expanded – with Kush’s younger brother Shakil set to arrive later this spring.

Carmel’s son will be played by 19-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi, best known to viewers as a 2009 Britain’s Got Talent finalist.

Seven years on from that BGT performance, Welsh-born Jafargholi will next be seen on EastEnders as 15-year-old Shakil, whose mission will be to reunite his divorced parents. And show bosses are already lining up a possible romance for the teenager once he’s ensconced on the Square.

Shaheen Jafargholi’s screen credits post-BGT include Casualty, Torchwood and Grandpa in My Pocket, as well as a memorable performance at singer Michael Jackson’s memorial.

Speaking about joining the BBC soap, he commented: “I’m so excited to be joining the show. I’ve been a fan since I was a little kid so to now be a part of something so iconic is an honour.

“I’m also really excited to be working with a legend such as Bonnie Langford. I’m having so much fun playing her son and can’t wait for people to finally meet Shaki.”
