JJ Abrams wants you to make your own Star Wars film

Think you can do better than The Force Awakens?

If you’re the kind of person who watched the Millennium Falcon jump to hyperspace and thought ‘meh, I can do better’, or are such a massive Star Wars fan you simply must prove your devotion, now is your chance.

The Star Wars Fan Film Awards is now accepting submissions. The annual competition, which has been running in one form or another since 2002, asks fans to create their own short films based in or on the Star Wars universe. Here’s The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams to explain more.

Winners will win a bunch of merchandise and the eternal admiration of your fellow Jedi. If your interest is piqued, you can find rules and a special folder of official Star Wars sound effects here. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. PT (7:59 GMT) 24th April 2016.

Now, before you get too cocky, here’s last year’s winner of the Filmmaker select award.

Pretty amazing, huh?
