Bafta Film Awards 2016: Brooklyn wins Best British Film

The competition was fierce between Amy, The Danish Girl, The Lobster, 45 Years, Ex Machina and Brooklyn


Brooklyn has won the Bafta for best British film, beating out the likes of Amy, 45 Years, The Danish Girl, The Lobster and Ex Machina to claim the prize at the 2016 ceremony.


Based on the novel by Colm Toibin and starring Saoirse Ronan, the film tells the story of a young Irish immigrant to America in the 1950s, and was presented the award at the star-studded London ceremony by Idris Elba and Kate Winslet.


The Bafta ceremony was hosted by Stephen Fry in his 11th year at the helm, and took place in the Royal Opera House.
