Nabbing two Best Serial Drama Performance awards in a row at the National Television Awards is no easy task, so it’s little wonder that Danny Dyer says doing the double is a “beautiful feeling”.
The actor told RadioTimes.com that while he rates himself as an actor, he still thinks there are equally deserving people among the EastEnders cast, including screen wife Kellie Bright and co-star Rakhee Thakrar.
“Rahkee this year, this girl has made me cry so much”, said Dyer of the actress, who was nominated for her performance as Shabnam Masood.
Speaking of women he loves working with, Dyer can’t wait for Barbara Windsor to make her EastEnders return. And thanks to a little misunderstanding about what “going at it” means (in our book it’s having an argy bargy but in Danny’s it’s decidedly more racy), he revealed that he’d be more than happy to lock lips with the Queen Vic’s former landlady.
“If she was to put the lips on me I’d kiss her because I respect her and I think she’s a very sexy woman,” he said.
“I’d love to have done more stuff with her. I think back in the day when EastEnders was watched by 20 million people and we only had a few channels, I’d love to have been a part of it then.”
As if his on-screen wife wasn’t already jealous enough! Kellie Bright told RadioTimes.com she was envious of Dyer’s live episode week scenes with Windsor and said she’d love to “squeeze in something” with Dame Barbara before she leaves Walford forever.
