What would a weekly TV series would have looked like in the time of New Labour and Tamagotchis?

The Doctor may be over 2000 years old but it hasn’t been a constant run. After going off-air in 1989, Paul McGann’s version of the Doctor only had one brief outing in the 1996 TV movie, before the Time Lord eventually returned in 2005.

Just think of it: that’s sixteen more-or-less Who-less years. Conventions, audiodramas and the rest did a great job keeping the flame alive during these dark times, and arguably the break allowed the programme to regenerate and return stronger than ever. But still, we can’t help but wonder what a full blown, weekly TV series would have looked like in the time of New Labour and alcopops…
