So this is a surprise. After years of speculation, it turns out we’re getting a sequel to apocalyptic found-footage drama Cloverfield after all – and it’s already dropped a trailer for a release date in two months. Our heads are still spinning.
Starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr., the film – called 10 Cloverfield Lane – apparently revolves around a trio of people living together in an underground bunker to avoid an unspecified danger outside.
But Winstead’s disbelieving character eventually decides to make a run for it, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt-style, only to discover that her captor may have been protecting her from something after all.
Our money’s on a big landmark-destroying monster like the first film, but then again director Dan Trachtenberg might have other plans as well. Gosh, it’s exciting.
“We wanted to make [10 Cloverfield Lane] a blood relative of Cloverfield,” the original film’s producer JJ Abrams told Collider. “The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
So it remains to be seen just how linked the films will be – but at least we won’t have long to wait until we find out…
10 Cloverfield Lane will be released on 11th March
