David Bowie’s new album Blackstar has shot to number one in the UK album charts after the singer’s shock death earlier this week.
The record, which was released on the singer’s 69th birthday last Friday, is one of 10 of Bowie’s to feature in the 40 best selling albums this week. His 2014 hits compilation, Nothing Has Changed, was the next highest charting at number five.
The singles charts saw a similar boost in sales for the Thin White Duke with Heroes charting at number 11. It was joined in the top 20 by Life On Mars? and Starman.
Over half a million Bowie albums in total have been sold this week, according to the Official Charts company. He had three greatest hits compilations, Blackstar, Hunky Dory, The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, The Next Day, Low and Diamond Dogs all in the Top 40 Albums Chart.
