If you land a part in the brand new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, it surely goes without saying that you’re meant to keep it a secret. But Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega couldn’t quite manage to stop themselves from sharing.
In fact, Fisher went the whole hog and, rather than telling a close friend, a family member or perhaps her dog Gary, she only went and told gossip-loving chat show host Graham Norton…
“I may have told Graham a year ago all about the film,” Fisher admits on tonight’s edition of the show. “There is a lot of pressure not to say anything.”
But, while it may be part of Mr Norton’s job to get stories like this out in the open, he (miraculously) kept quite.
“Of all the people to trust with a secret I am not the one, but you told me everything and I didn’t say a word!” Graham laughs.
New recruit Daisy Ridley also couldn’t keep the news to herself, although went a bit more low key with who she confided in.
“I kept the fact I got the role secret for three months, then told my sister and my mum and then my dad,” she reveals. But as it turned out, her dad wasn’t as excited as one might think he would have been.
“[His] only comment was: “I was always more of a Trek fan!”
Fellow newbie John Boyega adds: “I had to tell someone when I got the part so I told the taxi driver. My family was just glad I had a job!”
Secrecy was something that was a hot topic on set though, posters up reminding cast members that ‘loose lips sink star ships’.
Ms Fisher took it very seriously:
“Yeah, I stole one!”
