He may be delighted to be making his Star Wars debut as a “fat alien” in JJ Abrams Episode VII but Simon Pegg envisioned a rather different role in the franchise for himself when he was growing up.

“I always wanted Luke to have a younger brother that I could play when I grew up,” Pegg tells RadioTimes.com at the film’s European premiere in London.

“When I was a child I used to fantasize about being in Star Wars. I managed to pull that off, but I’m playing a large fat alien.”

With no sign of a younger Skywalker sibling for Luke and Leia in JJ Abrams’ Star Wars universe thus far, how would Pegg feel about playing the Jedi Master’s secret son? “I wouldn’t mind that actually,” he chuckles.

He’s certainly not complaining about the role he’s been given though. In fact, he’s delighted to be a part of the film, and has nothing but the highest praise for Force Awakens director and former Star Trek reboot mastermind JJ Abrams. The pair even share a ‘bromantic’ hug on the red carpet.

“He’s had a hell of a pressure on his shoulders to make this the film that everyone wants to see,” says Pegg, “and obviously he’s succeeded.”
