The Hunger Games franchise could “live on and on,” the Vice Chairman of Lionsgate, Michael Burns, has said, suggesting that there could be prequels to the movies.
Burns added that if new plots saw the film travel back in time, they would be set in the arenas in which Katniss battles for survival in the deathly dangerous competitions.
The final pair of Mockingjay films didn’t focus on this element whereas the first two instalments did — and Burns reckons that audiences felt that particular part of the series was lacking.
“The one thing that kids say they missed was there was no arenas. If we went backwards there obviously would be arenas,” he said, according to Variety.
Director Francis Lawrence commented just last month that he is keen to return to the world of Panem for a prequel set during the failed revolution that happened before these movies.
“The interesting part of the story for me is to go back 75 years earlier and see how everything became the way it is,” said Lawrence.
