Michael Moore is back, and he wants it all. The director of politically charged documentaries including Roger and Me, Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine has just released the trailer for ‘Where to Invade Next’.

His mission?

“I will invade countries whose names I can mostly pronounce, take the things we need from them, and bring it all back home to solve problems no army can solve.”

Of course, he’s not talking about oil or other resources, but solutions to problems including social justice and childhood obesity. Some of the effect might be lost on non-American viewers, but the film seems to represent a sunnier version of Moore than you will remember. In the wake of gay marriage being legalised, he now describes himself as a “crazy optimist”.

Now that really is scary.

The film has been shortlisted for the best documentary Oscar, and opens in theatres 23rd December in the US.
