One is a master of creating death defying situations. The other is a master of escaping them.
Coming to ITV Encore in the Spring (followed by Fox in the US and Global in Canada) Houdini & Doyle is based on the real life friendship and rivalry between the writer and the escapologist. Stephen Mangan plays Sherlock creator Arhtur Conan Doyle, while Michael Weston is Harry Houdini.
While the show will exaggerate reality and turn the pair into crime solving sleuths, it is based on the men’s interests and personalities. Ironically for the man who invented the logical Holmes, Conan Doyle was a passionate believer in the supernatural, while Houdini was practically minded and prone to debunking supernatural frauds.
