The hype surrounding Star Wars Episode VII is reaching fever pitch around the world – but talk about the Chinese poster for the film has been anything but positive.

When you take a closer look – as @sohoguy did when he popped it side by side with the UK version – perhaps you can understand why.

It’s hard to believe a poster for the film would significantly reduce the size of one of its leading characters and put him in a far less prominent position, so you’re probably thinking someone’s shrunk black actor John Boyega to cause a storm, right?

Wrong. It’s a real poster, which Hollywood insiders Deadline and others featured on 30th November.

Maz Kanata (played by Lupita Nyong’o) Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) are also missing, while Kylo Ren faces forward.

Changing a film’s poster for different markets is hardly a new or unusual phenomenon, but fans have found the decision to demote Finn a step too far.
