EastEnders actress Laurie Brett has revealed that the Beale family will be front and centre this festive season.
Speaking about what lies ahead later this month, the star – who plays beleaguered Jane Beale on the BBC1 soap – said: “All I’ll say is that there is a line in there saying something like, ‘this is going to be the best Christmas ever’, which I think says it all.”
And it looks as though the cover-up of Bobby’s guilt concerning the death of Lucy looks set to feature prominently. When asked whether the troubled Bobby might strike again, Brett replied:
“I’m pretty sure Bobby is quite damaged and I think there may be things coming up in the future that will be hard on him. But who knows how he’ll react? Watch this space!”
The 30th anniversary episodes of EastEnders in February saw Jane admit that she’d been complicit in concealing Bobby’s actions on the night of Lucy’s death.
And this week’s episodes will see Jane cover for Bobby once again after an argument between the two of them results in Jane taking a fall down a flight of stairs at the Beale house. As for whether Jane will now become increasingly scared of Bobby, Brett said:
“I don’t think she’s scared of Bobby, I think she’s scared for him. She’s frightened about what she’s done and what the consequences of her actions were when she covered for him. This is where she starts to think, ‘maybe there is something wrong with our son’.”
Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has already revealed that Bobby’s story will reach a crescendo later this month. Speaking back in October, he said:
“Bobby is definitely one to watch. He’s a bit of a little b*****d! And that story will reach its climax at Christmas.”
