The Great British Bake Off is looking for a fresh batch of bakers. On your marks. Get set. BAKE.
Bake Off 2016 applications are now open to any amateur bakers over 16 years old who think they have what it takes to impress Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.
The deadline for applications is midnight Sunday 10th January 2016, and if you’re thinking of applying then it’s best to start now, because the Bake Off application form is looong.
Love Productions – the team who make Bake Off – want to find out as much as possible about potential contestants’ strengths and weaknesses: are you a pastry perfectionist? How well do you really know your dough? And are you as cool as icing sugar under pressure?
They’re also after plenty of pictures, so best make sure your #baking Instagram feed is up to scratch.
Questions such as, ‘Who taught you to bake?’ and ‘How does baking fit into your lifestyle?’ show this is much more than just about whether you can concoct a lemon drizzle cake with your eyes closed. The show wants bakers we can fall in love with.
The form makes that clear: “When selecting applicants for the programme we will, amongst other factors, take into account: skill, enthusiasm, drive and love of baking.
“We are looking for lively characters who are comfortable being filmed,” it adds, explaining that “We will be looking for a mix of finalists to reflect the range in age, location, gender and diversity of amateur bakers in Britain.”
Filming is scheduled to run during March, April, May and June 2016 – yes, that does mean you have to keep a Bake Off secret.
