Put some money on the Cubs? Back to the Future prediction for World Series could go wrong

The Cubs are two games down in the best-of-seven series against the New York Mets. Is the future being re-written?

Everybody know the Chicago Cubs should win the World Series in 2015. Back to the Future II said so.

And it’s almost – almost – coming true. The Cubs made it all the way to the National League Championship series, the final hurdle before the World Series. Win here, and they contest the World Series starting on 27th October.

Has 1989’s Back to the Future 2 really predicted the 2015 World Series winner? It would be a stunning call given that they haven’t won in 107 years.

Unfortunately, it looks like the Cubs’ opponents the New York Mets haven’t read the film script.

The Mets currently lead the Cubs 2-0 in the best-of-seven series, meaning it would take a serious turnaround for them to make it through – let alone win the World Series outright.

If the Cubs do somehow make it to the World Series, Doc Brown himself wants to throw out the first pitch.

“I didn’t even remember about the Cubs until someone brought it up a few days ago,” Back to the Future actor Christopher Lloyd told The Hollywood Reporter. “Maybe it’ll happen. We’ll see. They got to get there first.”

The only thing we know for sure is that Miami won’t be in the World Series. The Miami Marlins – not alligators – never even made it this far.

Put some money on the Cubs? Only if you fancy an almighty upset – which, we suppose, is exactly the point.
