Girl band Little Mix are eyeing up their next project: a big-screen film.
The five-piece, which is made up of Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwall, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock – the only group ever to have won X Factor – know exactly the sort of film they want to make, too.
“Not just any film, it has to be like the Spice Girls movie and we actually act in it,” explained Leigh-Anne, speaking at the launch of their new perfume, Black Magic, last night.
The 1997 classic (bear with me) Spice World is quite a film to live up to. Ok, it was widely panned by critics, but it still pulled in $77 million (£49m) at the box office worldwide. At the time of its release it became the highest-grossing film to debut during Super Bowl weekend in the US (a title now held by Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: best of both worlds tour) and Meat Loaf played Dennis their bus driver.
That’s tough competition. The film followed Scary Spice and co, who played themselves, as they got ready for a gig at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Victoria Beckham launched the Spice Bus over the River Thames as Tower Bridge opened – in stilettos, naturally – and everyone from Elton John to Stephen Fry cameoed.
But hey, Little Mix should do what they want, what they really, really want and give Spice World a run for its money.
In the meantime, take a trip down memory lane with some memorable moments from Spice World…
