Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley take to the French Riviera in first look at new Absolutely Fabulous movie

Eddy and Patsy are back and living the high life on the south coast of France

Here’s some Absolutely Fabulous news for an overcast Monday afternoon: a first glimpse of Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley reprising their roles as Edina and Patsy in the new Ab Fab movie.

And they’re in the French Riviera, aspiring to live the high life – a hare-brained plan that looks to be working based on this first-look picture.

The new film opens with Eddy and Patsy shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots before a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party sees them engulfed in a media storm and relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Penniless, the pair flee to France’s sun-soaked coast where they conspire to make their relocation permanent and live the high life forevermore.

All the old favourites are back for the BBC comedy’s debut outing on the silver screen, with Julia Sawalha as Eddy’s long-suffering daughter Saffy, Jane Horrocks as Bubble and June Whitfield as Mother, plus the promise of plenty of A-list guest stars from the worlds of acting, fashion and music.

“I am thrilled and excited to finally start filming,” says Saunders who’s written the film’s script. “We are all on the Sanatogen and hoping for the best.”

Absolutely Fabulous: the Movie is shooting in the UK and the south of France for the next seven weeks.
