If we all tweet our support for Scottish rugby, JK Rowling will reveal Sirius Black’s birthday

It's bribery of a magical kind...

Of all the mysteries that remain from the Harry Potter series, one of the smallest but most intriguing is Sirius Black’s date of birth. All we know about Harry’s godfather is that he was 22 years old on November 1, 1981 so he must have been born in 1959.

But we don’t actually know the date. And we very much want to know, mostly so that we can have a National Sirius Day Celebration where nobody goes to work or school – a prospect that’s becoming ever likely because JK Rowling has promised to reveal the day Sirius was born if enough people tweet support for Scotland in the Rugby World Cup…

It’s bribery of the most magical kind, and Rowling has no shame…

Rowling clearly thinks all the support will work some sort of magical spell on her beloved Scotland’s favour as they battle on the pitch. And it could work – Scotland is certainly getting even more Twitter love than ever before, and from all over the world…

But nobody really minds being bribed when it’s by JK Rowling…

You heard her! Feel the might of the dragon! (not the Hungarian Horntail kind…)

So as the #AsOne tweets take over Rowling’s Twitter feed, we’re waiting for the moment we can declare it National Sirius Day…
