EastEnders’s executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has been talking to RadioTimes.com about the pivotal scene in tonight’s episode when Ian finally comes face to face with Kathy.
“It’s the moment everyone has been waiting for and we wanted it to be as exciting as possible,” said the show boss. “And even though Ian and Kathy do come face to face tonight, there’s a lot more to come over the rest of the week.”
Ian (Adam Woodyatt) will be seen contemplating suicide as he prepares to throw himself from a bridge – but an intervention by wife Jane (Laurie Brett) followed by the sudden reappearance of Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) leads to him reconsidering his actions.
“It’s spine-tingling,” continued Treadwell-Collins. “Because you’ve got Adam and Gillian doing this reunion for real. There’s genuine love and heart underneath it all. And the surprises keep coming.”
But will Ian be forgiving of the mum who he has believed to be dead for close to a decade? “At first, Ian is going to be utterly blinded because his mum is back, but as more information comes out, he and Ben are going to find the situation difficult to deal with.
“Plus Jane is going to be very wary of Kathy. That’s definitely a relationship to keep watching.”
