X Factor 2015: Rita Ora’s top six girls have been chosen

After the gruelling Six Chair Challenge Rita Ora has decided which six female singers she's taking through to Judges' Houses

Tonight saw the first round of this year’s Six Chair Challenge and it was up to new X Factor judge Rita Ora to decide which six female singers she’d be taking through to her Judges’ Houses. Which is in LA by the way. Lucky them.

For the first time, the category mentors were chosen by a public vote. All of the judges wanted to mentor the girls this series, with Nick Grimshaw openly calling for fans to help him get the gig. But it’s Ms Rita who won out (Simon’s expletive-filled response amusing for everyone but his actually overs category, with Cheryl getting the groups and Grimshaw the boys) and so stepped up to the plate for this first Six Chairs battle.

It’s a nerve-shredding audition, which sees the singers perform again in the hope of being told to take a seat by their category mentor. A seat equals a spot at Judges’ Houses. But it’s not a done deal until everyone has sung, with singers swapped in and out until the judge is happy with the final line-up.

After plenty of chopping and changing – Rita had to get sixteen singers down to six – Ms Ora confirmed her team and it certainly is bursting with talent:

Chloe Paige

Chloe has been a firm favourite among the judges, with Cowell making a point of congratulating her for standing out during the Boot Camp Six Chair Challenge.

Havva Rebke

It’s second time lucky for Havva, who got the boot at Boot Camp in 2012, interestingly enough the year now mentor Rita Ora was a guest judge.

Kiera Weathers

Kiera’s determination is palpable and it seems she’s more than ready for the battle to get to this year’s live shows.

Lauren Murray

It would have been quite strange not to see Lauren get a seat this year, she’s been a pretty firm fixture since her first audition all but kicked the series off. Lauren got a bit of a ticking off at Boot Camp for not doing enough to stand out, but as Grimshaw told her, it seems pretty likely she’ll be ditching the receptionist day job.

Louisa Johnson

It feels like Louisa is already thought of as a potential winner, rather than anyone having much concern about whether she’ll make it through the auditions or not. Here’s hoping nerves don’t get the better of her at the next stage and it’s plain sailing to the lives.

Monica Michael

Thank goodness for that! Monica was memorably kicked out of the competition at this stage last year, so fans will be delighted things went her way this year. Monica spoke to us about her pre-Six Chairs nerves and admitted to teasing Olly Murs about not singing one of his songs this time around. Read the full interview here

The acts cut from Rita’s category are as follows: Sophie Plumb, Lucy Duffield, Kelly Mai Webb, Katie Coleman, Karen Mav, Chloe Baker, Jasmine Leigh Morris, Sharon Rose, Charli Beard and Caitlyn Vanbeck.

The X Factor continues Sunday at 7:00pm on ITV
