Slipknot’s Corey Taylor lends his scream to Doctor Who

The metal singer will supply the bloodcurdling call of the Fisher King, a character appearing in episode four of series nine

Doctor Who series nine has positioned Peter Capaldi’s Doctor as a bit of a rock star, and now he’s set to face a similarly musically-inclined foe – Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor, who has revealed he’s provided his trademark metal scream for new villain the Fisher King.

Longtime Whovian Taylor apparently laid down the recording while on a VIP tour of the Doctor Who studios, according to the Mirror, with the singer confirming the story on his Twitter account yesterday. To get a taste of how said scream might sound, you can have a listen to a few of Taylor’s previous efforts below:

The Fisher King, in case you’re wondering, is the antagonist from upcoming two-part story Under the Lake/ Before the Flood. Unfortunately you’ll have to wait until the second part of the story to actually see him (unless you glimpsed him in the series 9 trailer, below and main image), but RadioTimes.com has heard Taylor’s mighty roar in the episode and can confirm that it’s pretty damn creepy and well worth getting an expert in.

That said, you won’t actually see Taylor onscreen as the fishy fella, or even hear him speak. Peter Serafinowicz (who voiced Darth Maul in 1999’s Star Wars’ Episode I) supplies the character’s lines, with Britain’s tallest man Neil Fingleton using all 7ft and 7 inches of his height to portray his intimidating physical form.

Still, Taylor had definitely earned his place alongside musical guest stars including Foxes, Katherine Jenkins and many more. Even if you don’t see his face, that scream definitely stays with you…
