Bake Off’s Tamal: “I wouldn’t have a girlfriend, I would have a boyfriend, but I’m single at the moment”

The 28-year-old GBBO star discusses his new-found heartthrob status in this week's Radio Times magazine

Great British Bake Off contestant Tamal has become something of a heartthrob, with fans professing their love for him on social media every Wednesday evening.

So naturally, the question on everyone’s lips has been is Tamal available?

“I wouldn’t have a girlfriend, I would have a boyfriend,” Tamal tells us in this week’s Radio Times magazine. “But I am single at the moment.”

His relationship status isn’t due to a lack interest. “Yes, I have had a few offers on Twitter!” he tells us.

Romance aside, the Bake Off experience has also made the 28-year-old more popular at work where he is a senior house officer at an intensive care unit. “It’s a great icebreaker,” he admits. “In the morning I see my patients on that day’s operating list, and talking about Bake Off helps with the tension a bit.

“I didn’t think the consultants were particularly interested, but I made some muffins recently and they all went mad for them.”

In fact, he’s even inspired some competition in the workplace. “At the end of my set of night shifts this week I’ve been asked to stay on during the day and judge a hospital Bake Off,” he says. “It’s the last thing I want to do, to be honest!”
