See Tom Hiddleston performing as Hank Williams for the first time

The Thor star transforms into the American crooner in this first footage from I Saw the Light

Tom Hiddleston certainly looks the part of Hank Williams, but does he sound as good as the American singer-songwriter? The British actor is playing the musician in a new biopic – I Saw the Light – which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow.

But first, here’s a glimpse of the Thor star’s Williams mimicry, singing his 1948 hit Move It On Over in a Nashville recording studio. Does he live up to the legend of the country crooner? Judge for yourself in this first-look footage tweeted by Hiddleston himself:

I Saw the Light follows Williams’ sudden rise to fame and struggle with addiction before his tragic death in 1953 aged just 29. Also starring Elizabeth Olsen as the singer’s wife Audrey, the film is due for release in America later this year but is yet to get a UK release date.
