Outlander’s Sam Heughan set to join Supergirl star Melissa Benoist in romantic drama Oxford

The pair will appear together as a student and a terminally ill teaching assistant who fall in love

Well, this is an exciting pairing. Outlander’s Sam Heughan looks set to join Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist in a new romantic drama titled Oxford.

The new film is set in – you guessed it – Oxford where an American Rhodes Scholar (Benoist) arrives to study. (For the uninitiated, the Rhodes Scholarship is one of the most prestigious in the world and sees foreign students come to study at the British university.)

Once there, she meets and falls in love with an arrogant teaching assistant (Heughan) who is secretly battling terminal cancer. When she discovers the reason for his standoffish attitude, they make the most of each day, travelling the world together.

Written by Allison Burnett (Gone, Fame), the film is still looking for a director before setting shooting dates, reports Deadline, but already boasts two of TVs biggest stars.

Benoist’s Supergirl, co-starring Calista Flockhart and David Harewood, is expected to become one of autumn’s biggest series, while Heughan’s Outlander is the most-watched show on Amazon Prime UK and is currently filming a second series set to land on screens in 2016.

Sam Heughan is currently battling it out against Aidan Turner in Radio Times TV Champion. Vote for him here!
