Names: Stevi Ritchie and Chloe Jasmine
Ages: 34 and 24
Famous, why? They are the unlikely couple who struck up a romance on last year’s X Factor
Stevi Ritchie bio: Stevi won over the judges at his X Factor audition with his ill-fitting suit and cheeky, David Brent-style charisma. He sang a song too – Olly Murs’ Dance With Me Tonight.
It was never about the singing with Stevi, though. He was an entertainer, a novelty act who was in on the joke. The public loved him. Playing up to it, he would perform cheesy hits like Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up, Ricky Martin’s Livin’ Da Vida Loca and – in one mind-scorching week – Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Only once did the gag waver, with Stevi’s emotional, entirely earnest rendition of Phantom of the Opera’s The Music of the Night. After seven weeks in the competition, he was eventually beaten by Andrea Faustini.
Then: Singing Elton John’s I’m Still Standing while dressed as an Egyptian, for some reason
Chloe Jasmine bio: Chloe Jasmine is no stranger to reality TV. Before appearing on The X Factor, she featured on Sky’s modelling reality TV show The Face. 2014 wasn’t even her first appearance on the X Factor: she auditioned when she was 17, but was turned away. Probably because of the pink cowboy hat.
Last year, however, she impressed the judges with a jazzy rendition of Black Coffee by Ella Fitzgerald – a song that set up her vintage shtick of performing songs of a bygone era. What gripped the public more than her rich, evocative voice, however, was her extremely posh speaking one. It made her an alluring target for the tabloid press, especially since it was entirely different to how she sounded in her first audition, aged 17.
Alas, Chloe Jasmine only made it to week two of the live shows, with her ‘retro’ versions of songs such as Britney Spears’ Toxic failing to win over the public. Not that it was the last we heard of her.
Then: Singing a Costa Coffee version of Britney Spears’ Toxic
Stevi Ritchie and Chloe Jasmine, the couple bio: As proven above, Ritchie and Jasmine were once individuals. Not now, though. Now they are Stevi Ritchie and Chloe Jasmine ‘the unlikely couple’ – a brand.
As you know, they met on the X Factor. Details of their romance began to emerge early on in the competition, with stories of flirting in the X Factor house, and Ritchie blurting out on camera that they had spent the night together. Speaking of cheating on her then-boyfriend, Jasmine later said that she was, “not ashamed of what I did, because I believe it was part of God’s divine plan.” Proving, of course, that God has His priorities exactly right.
The press went wild; ‘that Harvesters guy?! With that former model?!’ Yet, whether by design or due to the fact that it wasn’t that serious yet, the couple remained coy, only performing together in the X Factor final, where they sang I’ve Had The Time Of My Life alongside the likes of Chico, Katie Waissel and Wagner. Not long after the show, the pair seemed to make it official in those sort of candid paparazzi photos that just happen to catch celebrity couples at a perfect, photogenic moment. From here, they began to fuse into one identity: the unlikely couple, giving interviews in glossy, celebrity magazines about how unlikely they are.
A fact that will only be hammered home all the harder now that they’re engaged. Brace yourself for PDA.
Then: Singing a version of The Time of My Life that has been contaminated by some Black Eyed Peas nonsense (dirty bit)
