The cast of Star Trek have paid a touching tribute to iconic actor Leonard Nimoy. Simon Pegg, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine and co have remembered the late star in a video raising awareness for a charity which was close to his heart.
“We are honouring the great Leonard Nimoy. Leonard was an actor, a champion of the arts and a true inspiration to so many through his legenadary protrayal of Spock,” he says. “He influenced countless scientists and artists, myself and the rest of the cast included. It was an honour and a priveledge to know him and to call him a friend. Leonard’s love for the human spirit shown through everything he did. He touched lives around the world and he is greatly missed.”
The video – which sees the film’s stars doing the Vulcan salute, a sign devised by Nimoy himself – is part of Star Trek Beyond’s Omaze campaign, which is raising money for nine charities picked by the cast and crew.
“The cause we are highlighting this week is one that Leonard was passionate about. The St Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way in advancing cures for childhood cancer and other life threatening diseases,” says Quinto, adding: “Live long and prosper.”
