Gemma Collins has quit TOWIE. Yes, the GC, THE GC has left TOWIE.
The reality star shared the news on her Twitter account, adding that she’d had a “blast” during her time on the reality series.
Show insiders tell us it was Collins’ own decision, and like Mario Falcone – who also recently left the reality series – she’s done it in the right way. There was no dramatic walk out and the door is very much still open.
Because her departure comes before the next series (which arrives this autumn on ITVBe), there won’t be any ‘exit’ scenes filmed with Ms Collins, which is a shame as they’d be something to see, right? The tear-tally on TOWIE would go up immeasurably – and that’s just from fans at home.
Collins has been with the show for four years and, while it’s not clear what the 34-year-old plans to do next, rumours continue to rumble that she could be heading to the jungle for another stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! or has a place booked on this summer’s Celebrity Big Brother series.
Show insiders insist the recent departure of two big names from the series does not signal any issues: a domino effect is not expected. The show, after all, does not rely on any one individual. New cast members are likely to be added in the next series, although past additions have been slowly introduced rather than joining in one swoop at the start.
For now, fans must get used to the idea of the show without their “fave diva”…
