Tonight was biscuit week and some of the contestants crumbled...

During the second week inside the Bake Off tent, the contestants had to whip up all manner of different biscuits for the delectation of judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.

As usual, the contestants – and hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc – rose to the occasion and found time to serve up these fantastic comments even as things went wrong…

Mat hit us with this opening bit of honesty:

Sandy, meanwhile, felt she may fall at the first hurdle after the bakers were asked for biscotti biscuits of the same size…

As Tamal added golden berries to his mix, Mel made sure we all know exactly who’s top berry in the tent:

Marie turned to flattery as her biscotti crumbled…

While someone was swiftly adding a dentist to the judges’ speed dial lists:

While waiting for her arlette mix to cool, Sandy pretended to go for a swim. No quote necessary:

Meanwhile, Ian adopted a French accent, seemingly in the hope it would help make this tricky treat…

Mat continued to pile on the positivity:

While Marie invented a brand new insult after she didn’t set her oven properly…

As Nadiya made fortune cookies, Sue spotted an opportunity:

While Tamal made a ginger bread mix with a difference…

And in the face of a catastrophe, Nadiya decided there are worse ways to go…

The Great British Bake Off continues Wednesdays at 8:00pm on BBC1

Paul Hollywood will be at the Radio Times Festival this September. Tickets are available here.
